The MTV Logo Redesign?

After 29 years in business it's time for a change for MTV, it's time to embark on a new journey into a new era. If that was the case then MTV failed to capture that with its logo design.

After 29 years in business it's time for a change for MTV, it's time to embark on a new journey into a new era. If that was the case then MTV failed to capture that with its logo design. The MTV logo can often be debated as a brand of worldwide recognition, as a result it is understandable that there should not be too much overhaul, but a little retouch couldn't hurt.

The new MTV logo features a much more expanded "M". The new logo will be seen as a revolving image with imagery living with the design. According to an MTV press release they state that the redesign "represents a new visually defined MTV, stimulating its past, present and future and embracing it’s diversity." I guess MTV is catching up with the latest trends in design, featuring image within logos for example the summer games in London.

With the new design of MTV we should ask ourselves one question, "what does the logo say about MTV?" Judging by the redesign the M no longer stands for "Music".  Whether or not you agree with the format or choice of program the network represents, you should take come consideration in the preservance of the logo despite the endless design possibilities as the brand itself is flexible.
