While Drupal 7 is still fresh; community planning for Drupal 8 is already underway. Drupal 8 development comes with what will be known as Core Initiatives.
While Drupal 7 is still fresh; community planning for Drupal 8 is already underway. Drupal 8 development comes with what will be known as Core Initiatives.
The Drupal Core Initiative is is focused on community collaboration for the upcoming Drupal 8 release. The core initiative at its current stage will focus on:
- Configuration management
- Web Services and Context
- Design for core
- Multilingual Drupal
- HTML 5
The design core initiative and the multilingual initiative are two of the more important collaborations for the upcoming Drupal release. The Design for Core initiative in simple terms; is to build a new theme for Drupal 8 core.
The goal is to put design first and by doing so will allow any designer to get involved. The Design for Drupal user group states:
"Design for Drupal is about bringing the community of designers together to be a part of the Drupal community. It’s about enabling designers and themers to do great stuff, coordinate efforts, come up with crazy ideas, and build a movement to make Drupal beautiful. "
The Design for Core initiative has three main goals:
1. Add a new design to Drupal 8.
2. To establish a standard for selection and processing of new themes added to core.
3. To develop a collaborative environment for designers.
