With Amsterdam hosting many of New York's best street artists early on, the Amsterdam graffiti scene ignited and thrived well into the nineties. In 1992, the city temporarily stopped cleaning subways because of toxic chemicals in the cleaning material thus creating a scene reminiscent of New York during the 70s.
