  • These 3D Sand Sketches Will Give Summer A New Meaning

New Zealand artist Jamie Harkins uses his inspiration of 3D sidewalk art to create these stunning 3D sand sketches.

New Zealand artist Jamie Harkins alongside Lucia Lupf, David Rendu and Constanza Nightingale created these stunning 3D works. Together the team made sandy shores come to life with sketches that depict depth via sketched boats, steps and castles.
From a distance these sand drawings create a stunning 3D effect. Add images of people interacting with these installations creates a more realistic feeling despite the faux scenes.
Harkins was inspired by the popular 3D sidewalk chalk drawings from artists such as Edgar Mueller. "We've seen other people doing stuff on beaches, but it's always been geometric, flat shapes, like a pattern, so we thought we'd get into the whole 3D thing," he says. "And I kind of like the fact that it disappears at the end of the day when the tide comes in. It makes it impermanent."
